1.  STUDY PROGRAMME

Programme description

The basic programme´s design on all levels is determined by the purpose of the Institute of Ethnology at FA CU, which implies three dimensions: The General Dimension, which consists of the theory of the discipline (its school, directions, general anthropological framework) and the regional focuses, namely: Africa , Central Asia, America and South-East Asia. There is also a linguistic parallel with lectures on linguistic anthropology (i.e. the possible correlations of the language and culture studied mostly on exotic material); the European dimension, the core of which revolves around Czech ethnology, i.e. Czechoslovak ethnology and its traditionss (economic anthropology, food, clothing, architecture, annual customs, technology, ergology); last but not least, the folkloric Dimension with its central focus on domestic folklore, and also on ethnomusicology in and outside Europe, comparative folklore studies (the narrative folklore).

 

Bc. Profile:

The absolvent has theoretical and methodical basics of the discipline at his command, is fully equipped with the ethnological factual knowledge concerning the content of a culture as a whole and its essential parts. He will become familiar with the study of ethnogenesis and ethnic issues and their social and historical consequences on selected areas. The absolvent will gain all the basic information concerning the cultural variability of human society on diachronic and synchronic level and their respective research methods. He is able to work with ethnical and cultural issues on the applied level and use the methods of field studies in contact professions. He has at his disposal the knowledge concerning the Czech folk culture from the 19th century up to the present, together with its material and spiritual part, which enables him to work in cultural institutions or museums.

 

Mgr. Profile:

The study is based on the most recent demands of practice, above all it stresses self-reliance of the workers and at the same time their ability to work in teams and accept different roles in the teams, ranging from ordinary membership to the managing position. Each absolvent must be as flexible at his work as possible. The students are encouraged to continue their own education and improve themselves through lifelong study. The absolvent will gain all the basic information concerning the cultural variability of human society on diachronic and synchronic level and their respective research methods. He will become familiar with theoretic and methodic knowledge in social sciences and the most recent knowledge from the discipline.

The absolvents are provided with wide range of knowledge and skills. First of all it is general knowledge in the framework of all profile topics, which means advanced orientation in all that is connected with ethnological and cultural issues. On the other side they will have knowledge concerning concrete manifestation of the issues in certain territorial, historical and time contexts, including the knowledge concerning the Czech folk culture from the 19th century up to the present, together with its material and spiritual part.

At the same time the absolvents will gain the knowledge and skills from research and professional work in the respective field of study. They are able to deal with ethnical and cultural issues both on theoretical and applied level and are ready to continue their study of these issues in doctor program.
